"As a healthcare district, our vision for the community includes increasing access to care for all residents, especially the underserved and most vulnerable," said Chris Christensen, Desert Healthcare District & Foundation CEO. "For the second consecutive year, we're able to do that by bringing important medical resources to one of the valley's most popular shopping destinations."
Collaboration has been and continues to be an essential component of the Desert Healthcare District & Foundation's vaccination efforts. The pop-up clinic is supported through a USAging grant, which the District & Foundation received as a member of the Aging and Disability Vaccination Collaborative. This Collaborative distributes funding for vaccination education and promotion activities, including community vaccine clinics. in-home vaccinations, transportation to vaccination sites, and outreach and education for older adults and people with disabilities.
The Coachella Valley Equity Collaborative is a grass-roots group of community- and faith-based organizations which the District & Foundation coordinated and funded in 2020 as a collaborative response to COVID-19 in the valley. Since its inception, the Collaborative partners have administered nearly 50,000 COVID-19 vaccines and 24,000 COVID-19 tests to valley residents.
