Mobile medical clinics improve access to women's health services in Coachella Valley

The responsibilities of family, work and other life commitments often make it challenging for women to prioritize their health, especially in underserved communities.
Through its mobile medical clinics, the Desert Healthcare District & Foundation, with DPMG Health, is delivering a range of health services to women across the Coachella Valley. These services include obstetrics care, pap smears, primary care and mammography screenings, with the support of community partners such as The Pink Journey Foundation and the Palm Springs Black Wellness Club.
The screening process includes follow-up services to ensure that women who test positive are connected to ongoing medical care.

"Women have always been an essential part of the valley community receiving services through our mobile clinics, since we launched our first mobile clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic," said Carole Rogers, president of the Desert Healthcare District & Foundation Board. "Now we are also providing care for health matters that are unique to women, which is an important outgrowth of the Healthcare District's mission to achieve optimal health at all stages of life for all District residents."
The District & Foundation deployed its first mobile clinic in early 2022. The needs that were identified and met through that initial effort prompted the agency to purchase a second mobile clinic the following year. The second mobile clinic includes pharmacy and behavioral health services. Both clinics are operated by DPMG Health.
During the past year, the District & Foundation has hosted five women's health events through the mobile clinics. Three more events are planned on September 27, October 4, and November 15, 2025 (locations to be determined).
